Alex owns Derby Osteopath on Burton Road, treating the public for musculoskeletal aches and pains. This career widely informs his yoga teaching and practice where his detailed knowledge of anatomy helps avoid certain injuries and allows viewing yoga as a form of rehabilitation as well as a mind and body practice.
Alex trained with Bahia Yoga in Nottingham from October 2014 until July 2015 and qualified with the Yoga Alliance on the 200 hours teacher training programme. He first discovered Yoga when he was 25 when he got involved to benefit his flexibility for Tae Kwon Do training. A seed was planted which began to take firm root. Gym work was causing Alex further neck and shoulder pain and Yoga drew him back as a means of exercising without pain and creating a big smile after each class.
Quickly Alex was out of the weights room and into the Yoga studio. Over the last decade he has experienced some interesting side effects from his practice of Hatha yoga: 1 After three months the sharp pain between his shoulder blades eased suddenly. 2 Occasionally the normal 'after class grin' was replaced with a welcome real 'other' feeling be it melancholy, sadness, clarity or some similar feeling. The yoga had stripped way a confused state of mind and left Alex with an actual real feeling. 3 Hatha Yoga, despite an unfair reputation for being gentle has made Alex when necessary more active, honest and assertive. Yoga does not necessarily turn people into hippies or push-overs, rather Yoga gives you a greater perspective on what in life is really important and what is not worth bothering with.
Barring injuries Alex now practices yoga on a daily basis, either in taught classes or on his lounge floor. Currently Alex is reading The Hatha Yoga Pradipika, Ray Long's Vinyasa and Standing Postures and Amy Vaughn's Vedas to Vinyasa.
Alex has practiced Hatha, Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, BWY, Iyengar and Power Yoga. Alex has public liability insurance with the British Osteopathic Association BOA.
Come and practice postures and breathing techniques to stimulate the body, moderate muscular length, strengthen the whole body and still the busy mind.It is suitable for you if you are a beginner or someone who is developing a Yoga practice.
Expect in your class ~ to be lead into postures and know when to inhale and exhale ~ how to relax your body and mind ~ know when to inhale and exhale.
Exhaling relaxes the whole body and allows a more softened yoga practice. Held breath creates extra stability but can encourage muscular spasm.
Alex as your instructor will support your needs by encouraging you to practice at your own pace and adapt your Yoga to challenge but not harm your body. This means options and little moments of pause will be built-in. See you soon.
