I have been performing Oriental Dance professionally since 2000, started teaching in Derby in 2005. I have trained with many of the top instructors in the field as well as bringing my own unique style to the dance. I have taught and performed at the biggest Oriental Dance festivals across the UK and am known for my technique and strong teaching style. I am also a qualified fitness instructor, and although not currently practising, I am a trained nurse.
I teach Oriental Dance (you know it as belly dance), but it is actually Oriental Dance or ‘Raqs Sharqi’ in Arabic. Classes start at Beginner level, through to level 3 which is advanced. Students learn about the dances history and its people culture, understanding the music and how to interpret the music through dance. We often have live music events, regular student gatherings we call ‘Haflas’, where students can perform the routines learnt in class, or just enjoy watching other students from around the country. It is a very social and empowering dance, and exciting to learn, just to see what your body can do.
Workshops with Diana Mehira
I frequently book guest teachers for workshops specialising in different styles within the
genre, ie Tunisian, Morrocan Folk, Bedouin, and even different dance styles
from Samba to Bollywood.
